DateViser vs ChatGPT: Which Is Better for Dating App Replies?

By the DateViser team · Last updated

Short answer: ChatGPT is a general assistant. It can write a good dating reply if you upload the screenshot and tell it which side is you, what tone you want and how long the message should be. DateViser is built for dating. Its main feature is an AI counselor you call and talk to out loud: she remembers your situation, puts the message to send or a date plan on your screen and can play the other person so you can rehearse. It also turns a screenshot of a chat, profile, photo or story into one short message, with no instructions needed. Use ChatGPT for general jobs and long written work. Use DateViser when it is about your dating life and you want to talk it through or need the next message now.

What each one is

ChatGPT is a general assistant from OpenAI: it answers almost any question, and dating replies are one of many things it can do. DateViser is an AI dating assistant app for iPhone and Android, built for one area of life. You tap once and talk to an AI dating counselor out loud, like calling a close friend who is good at this. While you talk she puts cards on your screen, such as a message to copy, a few steps or a date plan. She remembers you between calls and can role-play a conversation. The app also turns a screenshot into the next message, and has a text chat if you would rather type. Under the hood they are related. DateViser currently uses OpenAI's models through OpenAI's API, so the difference is not a smarter model. It is everything around the model: a counselor set up for dating who knows your situation, the cards on your screen, the boldness slider, and what happens to your screenshot.

How to get a good dating reply from ChatGPT

If you would rather use ChatGPT, the prompt does most of the work. This structure gets close to what a dedicated app does:

A prompt you can copy

Here is a screenshot of my chat on Hinge. I'm the one on the right. Write one message I can send next. It should answer their last message, mention one specific thing from the chat and end with an easy question. Keep it under 30 words. Tone: playful, lightly flirty. No quotation marks and no explanation, just the message.

The same chat, both ways

Say their last message was "Haha yeah, that was Japan last spring", sent in reply to your question about a travel photo. In ChatGPT, you upload the screenshot and send the prompt above. In DateViser, you upload the screenshot, leave the slider toward the sweet end or move it toward the middle, and tap generate. With the slider in those two places, DateViser could suggest:

What DateViser could suggest

Sweet: Japan in spring sounds amazing. Were you there for the cherry blossoms, or was that a lucky accident?

Flirty: Japan in spring? Okay, now I'm jealous. Tell me the one thing you ate there that you'd make me try.

Each suggestion is written from your own screenshot, so yours will be different. Either tool can get you to a message like this. The difference is how much you have to type to get there, and what happens to the screenshot afterwards. If you would rather talk than type at all, see how DateViser's AI dating counselor works. Frequently asked questions

Does DateViser use ChatGPT?

Not the ChatGPT app. DateViser currently uses OpenAI's models, the company behind ChatGPT, through OpenAI's API, with its own instructions for dating: how a counselor should talk a situation through, how to tell who said what in a screenshot, how to write one short message to send, and what each of the five boldness levels means. When you upload a screenshot, DateViser asks the API not to store the response, and OpenAI says it does not use API data to train its models unless a developer opts in.

Can ChatGPT read dating app screenshots?

Yes. You can upload a screenshot to ChatGPT and ask what to reply. Say which side of the chat is you, what tone you want and how long the message should be, because a screenshot does not label who is who and a chatbot will otherwise guess.

Is it safe to upload dating screenshots to ChatGPT?

It depends on your settings. ChatGPT keeps the conversation, including the upload, in your chat history until you delete it, unless you use a Temporary Chat, and conversations can be used to improve OpenAI's models unless you turn off "Improve the model for everyone" in Data Controls. Whichever tool you use, crop out names, faces and phone numbers you do not need to share.

Can I talk to DateViser out loud, like ChatGPT's voice mode?

Yes. Talking is DateViser's main feature. You tap once and an AI dating counselor picks up, like a phone call. The difference from a general voice assistant is what she is set up for: she is built for dating, remembers your situation between calls, puts the message to send or a date plan on your screen while you talk, and can play the other person so you can rehearse.

Is DateViser free?

DateViser is free to download and free to try: a little time with your counselor and a few screenshot replies each week, plus the pickup line library. Premium gives you more of both; the price is shown in the App Store or Google Play before you subscribe.
